I teach 12 core spiritual disciplines that help you transcend your ego-self, live from your God-self and manifest and monetize your Soul Purpose.
The first five, which form the acronym A.P.R.I.L., are the most critical. They are as follows:
- Awareness Commitment
- Pattern Interrupt
- Reality Statement
- Instant Prayer
- Love Meditation
1. Awareness Commitment
The A in A.P.R.I.L. stands for awareness commitment. The awareness commitment is simply to realize that you cannot change what you’re unaware of; therefore, the first place to start in changing anything is with your awareness, or consciousness.
You are the “I Am” beyond your body and your mind; in other words, the essence of who you are is your spirit. You are a spirit, in a body, that has a mind.
The “I Am” is where all transformational change occurs in our quest to transcend the physical and mental realms. Be aware of who and what you really are, and commit to engaging this awareness in how you interact with your body and your mind.
2. Pattern Interrupt
The P in A.P.R.I.L. stands for pattern interrupt. The pattern interrupt technique is incredibly powerful, and possibly one of the most underrated techniques.
It means to simply use any number of methods to interrupt your habitual thought patterns of fear, doubt, worry, and pride, such as snapping your wrist with a rubber band, clapping loudly or anything else that gets your attention when you feel your ego-self arising and controlling you.
It’s a way for your God-self to instantly regain control of a situation, your thoughts, your emotions, and your judgments, and your actions.
This is where you change complaining and depression to learning and improvement, stop blaming and start taking responsibility, choose the sacred path over the scared path, and choose love over fear.
Any time your ego-self begins to act up and you feel the familiar thoughts and emotions of scarcity and fear, snap yourself out of it with a pattern interrupt. The ego is instantly stunned and placed into submission by your God-self.
3. Reality Statement
The R in A.P.R.I.L. stands for reality statement. Your life is lived through a series of inner conversations and the inner world creates the outer world.
We know that the fruit of any tree comes from the root. What is at the “root” of your “tree,” or in other words, what occurs consistently in your inner world that determines your outer world?
What are your inner conversations? Are they empowering? Are they loving? Are they forgiving? Are they strong-force attractors? Do they lead you to the greatest and highest expression of your soul purpose?
A reality statement is a way to train your mind to think how you want it to think. It involves creating a six- to eight-sentence statement that you repeat three times a day for a full 52 days, out loud.
It takes 22 reversals of a habit to break a habit, and 30 more implementations of a habit to make it a reality in the sub or super-conscious mind. Your reality statement is about reprogramming your consciousness to move from the mental to the spiritual realm.
The mind, like money, makes a terrible master, but an excellent servant; a repetitive reality statement is one of the best tools available to train your mind to be your servant.
4. Instant Prayer
The I in A.P.R.I.L. stands for instant prayer. Whereas a reality statement is a habitual process, instant prayer also trains your mind and controls your ego-self, but it occurs spontaneously as the need arises.
Suppose you are speaking at an event, and your ego-self starts to tell you that you’re not good enough, that you should be afraid, that you should present in a prideful manner, etc. An instant prayer immediately reels that negative energy in and replaces it with positive energy.
You may use a prayer that says, “Thank you Lord for allowing me to be your hollow reed through which you do this workshop today, saying all the exact right words in the exact right frequency in the exact right context in the most humorous, loving, and concise and valuable manner, so that everybody I’m about to speak to feels great through reconnection with you, oh Lord, through me. Amen.” That’s a spontaneous or instant prayer.
It’s not about being eloquent. It’s about remembering God. It’s about initiating the prayer, the intention of coming to prayer with an attitude of the heart.
If the attitude of the heart is right it’s a beautiful prayer. If the words are eloquent and the attitude of the heart is not loving, that’s not a real prayer; that’s trying to manipulate the universe and the universe is unable to be manipulated.
Instant prayer is spontaneously using prayer to end suffering. Reality statements revolve around the “I Am,” or the God-self; instant prayers center on others, not ourselves.
5. Love Meditation
The L in A.P.R.I.L. stands for love meditation. Although it tends to be highly underrated and often misunderstood, meditation is one of the most powerful tools available to man to transcend the mind and to prevent and ease suffering in the world.
Through meditation, we enter a collective global consciousness of other divine beings both in the physical and non-physical world, who are holding a sacred space. Numerous studies have shown that meditation can in reality influence the tangible world for good.
Knowing this helps us to be disciplined with consistent meditation, because we can see how meditation will help the world around us by promoting peace and harmony.
